The Belt

Well the Beardoff belt has been awarded. Thanks MC for your outstanding craftsmanship. I am going to take this opportunity to announce my retirement from Beardoff competition. At this point in my career, I feel I should hang it up, spend more time with my family and enjoy the benefits of having a full bushy beard. All new challenges should be referred to Mike Stubble. Thank you.

Thank you Stubble, for your gracious congratulations. You ran a tough campaign with integrity, which often seems to be lacking in these recent times. I have to admit I am surprised. Most of the competition, I felt I was in the shadow of Mike's dark and ferocious facial hair. But we left the voting up to the people, and the people have spoken, so let it be so. I humbly accept the title and thank everybody for their support and votes, including those who chose to support my competitor. We were happy to have your participation.

Let me be the first to congradulate El Barbudo. It was an intense battle and he has proved himself a Beardmaster. Look forward to photos from the belt presentation next week.

Day 31

This is the final official day of the Beard-Off competition. Unofficially it lasts until the voting ends. But today is the culmination of 31 days, one month, worth of beard growing. Looking back I can't say this month was without hardship. My task was daunting and my opponent strong, but nothing worth doing is ever easy.

Now I leave my fate in the hands of you, our participators. Let me close by saying while this chapter comes to and end the spirit of the competition will live on.

I read a disturbing fact recently. According to a study reported on the BBC website beards and mustaches account for as many as 162,719 lost pints of Guinness a year. But take heart, and think of this fact as just another reason to get an extra pint next time you go to the pub to make up for any you might have lost along the way.
